The Commonwealth Classic Theatre Company will present Moliere's "The Miser" France's most renowned playwright, Moliere, gives us a timely and horrifyingly funny look at the dark side of 'frugality".
The Miser tells the story of a family pushed to the brink by the father’s paranoid and fanatical fondness for his money, and his inability to form human attachments. The play is full of histrionics and hilarity. The wealthy Harpagon (the 'miser' in title) works feverishly to maintain his frugal lifestyle despite the mounting challenges that his children, his servants, and his own impending marriage, place on his relationship with his one and only true love: his gold! The Miser by Moliere will be directed by Kathryn MacMillan who is currently the Associate Artistic Director of The Lantern Theater in Philadelphia. She was nominated for a 2009 Barrymore Award for Direction and has worked with CCTC previously, adapting and directing our Readers Theatre production of A Christmas Carol.
